Happy Earth Day!

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

Good morning everyone and happy Earth Day! I must admit I had no idea it was Earth Day until I logged into Facebook, let alone what Earth Day actually is?!

Earth Day (What is it?!)

'Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970...Earth Day 1970 gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet '

... Definitely something I can rally behind!

Anyway, once I'd finished my mandatory cup of tea, it dawned on me that a few days ago my niece, Mila, hand made me a tiny flower pot! Coincidence? Probably!

So, to keep a short story even shorter. I will be planting my very first sunflower!

I'm far from green thumbed, fingered? ... and struggle to keep myself alive, let alone a plant. So, this is a true test.

I have my beautiful flower pot and I have managed to steal some seeds from my

mother-in-law's parrot food (Another short story)

I may even continue to add to this post as/if the sunflower grows. As with Christmas, Earth Day should be a state of mind and not just one day!

. . . 5 hours later!

Me again! Well, it's official I'm a plant grower..er! I just want to say a huge thank you to Mila, this kept me busy for a solid 15 minutes! It also gave me a little spring into summer project! THANK YOU!

The naming ceremony has finished and posted to both Facebook and Instagram. Welcome to the world Sydney the Sunflower! May you grow....

I WILL be giving weekly updates on our Sydney's progress! Once again, thank you Mila and thank you for following me thus far! I hope you all have an amazing day!

Take care,

Hi all!!

I hope this entry finds you well! (This will be my second of three entries in this blog post)

So, here we are almost two months later and boy, do we have progress to report!!! I'm going to try and keep this a short as possible. So, I'll pop in my progress photo's here and summarise below!

I can honestly say that this will now be a yearly tradition of mine. I managed to enjoy my Sunflowers well into September! All from one tiny little seed!

My third and final entry will probably occur once my Sydney has flowered!

Take care,

Hi all!!

Here you have it! The third and final post. I started my green thumbed journey all the way back in April, lasting well into September! I grew some beautiful flowers and lost some too. I can honestly say, I'll be doing it all again each and every year.

My original Sydney the Sunflower was even kind enough to sprout a full head of seeds. Her legacy will live on for years to come.

'Oh sunflower! The queen of all flowers,

No other with you can compare,

The roadside and fields are made golden

Because of your bright presence there.

Above all the weeds that surround you

You raise to the sun your bright head,

Embroidering beautiful landscapes

Your absence would leave brown and dead.'

by Ed Blair

Thank you all so very much for getting this far. I can only apologise for my terrible writing skills.

I have hope this blog, my first blog post wasn't too gruelling for you.

Take care!
